3 Ways to Enjoy Superbowl as a Family

American Style Football Isolated on White Back...

If your household is anything like mine from September to January, Sundays are sacred. It’s God-Family-Football. It’s become tradition…Need I explain further?

Although we all love to watch a good game, sometimes a snoozer could use a little jazzing-up. Even bowl games, and heck, the Superbowl can be a rough ride if it’s a scoreless grudge match.

So, since I am less than thrilled about the teams playing in this year’s Superbowl, I anticipate being bored. Hence, the inspiration for this post. Here are 3 games that make the Superbowl or any game day a more fun activity for the whole family.

Game 1: Superbowl Bingo: Official Lingo

Create bingo-style cards beforehand that are randomized with ref-speak: Holding, Pass Interference, False Start, etc…Distribute to your brood and have everyone check off the calls on their cards as they become available. The first one to get a line, X and full card, wins a prize!

Game 2: Color Wars

Before the game have everyone randomly select the name of one of the 2 teams playing from a hat. The rules for the rest of the game are as follows: When your team is on defense, you have to be silent — no cheers or jeers. The team that maintains composure, wins. You can play at each quarter or half. Offense can be as loud as they want! Prizes should be awarded, of course.

Game 3: Promo Check

This is just great busy-work for the kids. Give them each paper and a pad and have them record how many food/beverage brands advertised during the game are available at your bowl party. There are no real winners or losers, but when all is said and done, this could be quite an interesting little experiment.

And so, these are my humble suggestions for keeping the masses entertained. If you find yourself head in hand over your hoagie this Sunday, consider organizing one of the aforementioned. You never know — it might just become a new tradition 🙂
