Snow, snow, snow.
We’re buried and worse, we’re bored! There are only so many snowmen, angels and igloos one can make before losing interest in the cold outdoors.
Born from the need to shake the cabin fever, and frankly, just get the kids out of the house, I devised a few new approaches to winter fun. Here is this desperate mother’s attempt to reinvent snow day play with three fun and easy games:
1. World’s Largest Snowball
Challenge the kids to make the world’s largest snow ball (or maybe just the largest in the neighborhood). They can team up or play against each other. At the end, mom makes a cameo to measure to determine the unofficial winner. The prize: Extra marshmallows in the hot chocolate?
Speaking of marshmallows…
2. Polar Bear Hunt
Give the kids one large marshmallow and take turns hiding it in the snow. Using a stopwatch and warmer/colder directives, guide the gang toward the target. Repeat, trying to best your previous time with each successive round. (Hint: Keep a few extra marshamllows in your pocket in case the seekers get a little snack-happy).
3. Snow Art Show
Arm your kids with small shovel, sand buckets, cups, spoons and food coloring. Give them 30 minutes to create a snowy masterpiece and put their creations on display. Better, have them create their artwork on the front lawn for the whole neighborhood to enjoy.
Don’t forget your camera to capture all the fun!
Happy Snow Day 🙂
